Location: 126 Drury Lane Theatre Land London
Client: Sarastro Ltd.
Status: Construction Completed
Contract Value: £350,000
The project site is a Grade II listed building and comprises basement, ground and five upper floors. The ground floor and basement are occupied by Sarastro Restaurant (Class A3), with residential accommodation on the up- per floors.
The Sarastro restaurant, opened in 1996, has transformed itself into a theatrical dining space hugely welcomed by Londoners. As a part of its fame in appearance; the growing number of customers demanded better servicing. Therefore upgrading the kitchen space and staff facilities was inevitable. The new extension fulfills these requirements.
The design intention was to create a sober and simple structure to sit comfortably within the existing quiet back courtyard, used mainly by residents in the area and not by restaurant customers. Only two visual connections through the windows of the kitchen and staff changing area link the extension to external conditions.
